Bogus e-mails from vermontel.net

We have reports that several of our customers have received emails that appear to have come from VTel Internet. These emails request the recipient to respond to the email and provide your account password.

THESE EMAILS ARE FAKE!

At VTel Internet we will never ask you for your account password. This is simply a attempt by someone to gain access to your account. Likely this message has been broadcast to hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of email addresses worldwide.

If you ever receive a communication from VTel Internet that you feel may be bogus, please contact us at (802)885-9002 or through email at techie@vermontel.net.



Some examples of these fake messages:
Dear Subscriber,

This is to inform all VTel Internet account holders again that upgrading/maintenance of our server that was initially scheduled for this week has been postponed till next week September 18, 2009 for technical reasons. Once again, all account holders should endeavor to confirm their information as failure to confirm the requested information will lead to automatic system deactivation (ASD) after the upgrade and maintenance. You may experience login problems during this period. We are also having congestion due to the anonymous registration of accounts and on this note, we are deactivating some accounts that are no longer active and your account may be deactivated if no response to this e-mail within 1 week.

To confirm and keep your vermontel account active during and after this upgrade and maintenance, you are advised to e-mail your account information as below.

Your vermontel account shall remain active after we have successfully confirmed and upgrade our server.
