''Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my
father. Prepare to die''
Inigo Montoya (the Princess Bride)
Hello. My name is...no, no, no, that's not the right intro. What I mean is hello, and welcome to our family's entertainment page. As you will soon see, movies encompass a very large part of this page but I guess there's nothing really wrong with that. Actually a large part of our entertainment comes from role playing but we already have an entire page for that, so please feel free to mosey on over and check it out. So, on to our favorite movies. Perhaps you can already tell from this particular page that I'm partial to the Princess Bride. It is, I think my absolute favorite movie of all time. If you've never seen it, please go rent it immediately. If have seen it, well then go see it again. Or if you're like me, again and again and again. That movie is wonderful, like a slice of rich, creamy dessert, one serving is not enough. Varied characters, romance, sword fighting, revenge, monsters, true love, miracles, this movie has it all. Hmmm, I think I'll go watch it again.

Some of my other favorite movies are Dragon Heart, excellent movie, although a tad violent, but watching the long haired Dennis Quaid more than makes up for that. Young Guns II, very violent, but enjoyable, Twister and The Mummy. There are many, many other movies I enjoy, but the list would be to long to post here. Now while my husband enjoys the Princess Bride, he is much more obsessed with Star Wars (all of them) than with anything else. Yes, he was one those fans who stood in line for hours to get into the first midnight showing of Episode One. Ask him anything about any of those movies and he is likely to have an answer. Since his great enthusiasm for Star Wars seems unwavering, we have, in the last year or so, acquired numerous toys, books and games that have to do with those movies, but hey, a little obsession never hurt anyone. Now if they would only come out with Princess Bride games, hmmmmm. My husband has also managed to involve our children in his never ending interest in Star wars. Both of our boys now sing along to the Duel of Fates despite the fact that it has no words, just music.

And now, on to television. I will admit that when I was younger I watched tv all the time. I was a true tvholic. I knew every program that would be on and usually what would happen in them. I have unaddicted myself since those days and now watch a lot more sporadically. Some of my current favorite shows are ER and anything on the Discovery channel, the Learning channel and almost anything on A&E. Now my all time favorite show would have to be Due South. It ran on CBS a few years back, the got moved to TNT. The show was about a Mountie (a very cute one) who comes to Chicago in the search of his father's killer and teams up with a chicago detective to solve crimes. It was funny, well written, and extremely enjoyable to watch. I actually recorded all the episodes but one so now I can watch them whenever I want. If you only get a chance to see one or two episodes of this show I urge you to choose Victoria's Secret. It was a two-part Season finale of the first season and was the best episode of any show I've ever seen on tv. I actually had to watch it more than once to catch all the subtle symbolism placed into this show. It is definitely worth watching.

Well, seems like I've made it sound like we spend a great deal of time in front of the tv, but we also read a lot. My current favorite is The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I loved reading most of these and am now anxiously awaiting the publication of Book 9, which, if rumors can be believed, is going to be all about my favorite character. Unfortunately rumors are also spreading that this book is a long way from publication so I continue to wait. Some other great books would be The Pillars of Earth by Ken Follet. If you ever wanted to know anything about Cathedral building and life in the middle ages, but don't want to read nonfiction, then this book is for you. One warning though, it is very long and once you start to read it you may not be able to put it down. My house is so full of books that's it's very hard to choose any other favorites so I will end this page here with one final thought; good entertainment is never a waste of time as long as it is done in moderation.
