Poultney Methodist Church

Fall has been a busy time at our church. We have been in full swing with our “Sharing the Grace” capital campaign for the last 12 weeks. The front two stained glass windows have been removed, restored, and reinstalled. They are just beautiful and protected with the thermal glass barrier. For those who have been in the area it has been interesting to see the men working. Two more windows have been taken to be worked on. Plastic now covers the rest of the windows to help insulate the sanctuary this winter.

To date we have $115,000 committed to our 3 year campaign. We are hoping to raise $150,000. We would like to thank everyone for their financial commitment.

There was a very committed team of people who worked all fall on the campaign. Without these dedicated people the campaign would not have been possible or such a success. We would like to thank the following people of our Leadership Team:

The first Monday of advent this year brought our first “Advent by Candlelight”. This was a women only event held in the evening. All of the tables were decorated by their hostess, a light supper was served, music was provided by Allison and Camille from Green Mountain College, and the guest speaker was Tammy from the Rutland Open Door Mission. The women were treated to wonderful homemade desserts. Fifty women attended and enjoyed this first annual event. A special thanks to Carol Whitney and Janice Riecker for organizing this event.

At our fall meeting we made plans for serving brunch at the Wells Church following their Commitment Sunday service in November. The morning was very successful and we appreciate all those who contributed. Carol and Janice also outlined plans for the Advent event.

In November we held our traditional, well-attended pancake breakfast at Rathbuns. Our treasurer reviewed our work in mission which includes: funds for the food shelf, The Young at Heart Senior center, Kern Hatten Homes, funds for district missions, and church Christmas wreaths. The Christmas tree in the church now stands ready to receive hats, mittens, warm gloves and socks to be delivered to the Open Door Mission.

Many thanks to all those who help in our mission and outreach projects.

Our Christmas Bazaar was a success!!  There are still ornaments for sale on the tree in the fellowship room, and we’ll have last minute jewelry stocking stuffers for you to purchase Sunday morning.  Many, many thanks to everyone who supported the Circle with their talents and expertise in so many different ways.  Stay tuned for an update on how much money was made.
