Due Thursday March 24th

In a three to five page paper, write an essay on the following topic.

Using Newton, Descartes, Bacon, Galileo and any of the other philosopher/scientists we’ve studied address the following question.

Is the world simple or is it complicated?

I’m looking for an interesting essay that makes use of passages from the readings to support your position. You can be ambivalent (straddle the two positions) if you want. Still you must draw upon the readings to make your case. It seems a straightforward question, but I want an essay that expands upon this question – adds twists and turns, begins with an understanding of the meaning of simplicity and complexity. Use only the readings for references and use them frequently. It is important to make your essay coherent and, in particular, to culminate with emphasis upon Newton’s discoveries since he is the last author we’ve studied.
