Mick Harte Was Here
by Barbara Park

I read the book Mick HarteWas Here by Barbara Park.  The main characters are Mick and Zoe Harte and their parents.  But Mick is dead...A truck hit his bike and he died.  What would it be like to lose a family member?  I wish Mick wore his bike helmet.  This book shows how Zoe and her family live through Mick's death.
I think my friends would like this book because it is a very good book, even though it is sad.  I give this book 5 stars.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
by J. K. Rowling

    J. K. Rowling is a genius.  She wrote the "Harry Potter" series.  This story is the first, and takes place in two places in England, at the Dursley house at Privet Drive #4 and Hogwarts Academy.  The main characters are Harry Potter, his classmates Draco Malfoy, Herminone Granger, Ronald Weasly, and also Hagrid, Aunt Petunia Dursley, Uncle Vermon Dursley, and cousin Dudley Dursley.  This book is a magical fiction book that has won the British Book Award Children's Book of the Year and the Smartie's Prize.
In this book, Harry Potter loses his parents when he is only 1 year old.  They were killed by an evil wizard.  Harry has to live with the Dursleys.  On his eleventh birthday, he starts to receive mysterious letters delivered by owls.  Finally Hagrid finds Harry and gives him the letter. (Uncle Vernon burnt the others.)  In the letter, Harry finds out he is a wizard, and is going to Hogwarts.  He is so excited.  There Harry goes on many adventures and discovers many things about himself and the Wizard World.
People who like fantasy books and adventures would like this book.  I give this book a five.  This is my type of book.  I'm going to read them all.

Eyewitness Handbooks: Cats
by David Alderton

The book, Eyewitness Handbooks: Cats is a nonfiction book about cats.  This book tells you how to take care of cats.  It talks about how to groom cats.  It talks about their different colors and coats.  Some cats do not even have hair, but they are still cute.  Some of the cats have ears that are down.  It tells about different breeds. Some cats do not have tails.  Some have spots, stripes, or are plain.  Half of the book is about kittens.
I like this book because I like cats, and I grew up with cats.  I have three cats, Pumpkin, Logan, and Honey.  I rate this book more than five stars.  I think third grade and up would enjoy this book, or anybody who wants to get a cat.

The Magic Finger
by Roald Dahl

Have you ever heard of a kid who can turn people into birds or any other creature just by pointing her finger when she loses her temper? This is what happens in the the fantasy fiction book, The Magic Finger, by Roald Dahl.
The main character is a girl who is eight years old and lives on a farm.  She gets very angry when her neighbors are carrying a dead deer that they hunted out of the forest.  That makes her cross.  It makes her so cross, she turns them into ducks!
I think kids who like girl power would like this book, but definitely not hunters.  Roald Dahl must love fantasy fiction.  I like this book because I think girls have power and this book proves my point.  I rate this book 5 stars, and the grade level is definitely 2nd grade and up.  The Magic Finger is truly a great book.

Muggie Maggie
by Beverly Cleary

How would you feel if you did not want to do something that someone makes you do?  That is what happens in the book Muggie Maggie.  Maggie is a third grade girl who does not want to write in cursive like the rest of her class.  To see what happens next, read the book, Muggie Maggie.
I give this book a five star rating.  I think that third graders would like this book because it is realistic fiction and is about a third grade girl.  I like the book because I like realistic fiction.  This book is by Beverly Cleary who also wrote the Ramona series.

Fantastic Mr. Fox
by Roald Dahl

Imagine being a fox and it's all your fault that all the animals underground are starving to death.  They are starving to death because one fox has stirred up trouble by eating the farmer's farm animals.  This is what happens in Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl.  The main character of this book is obviously
Mr. Fox.  The genre is animal fiction and this book takes place mostly underground.
The reason why all the animals underground are starving is because Mr. Fox has eaten one of the ugliest, meanest farmers around's chickens.  Now the farmers are waiting for him above ground, so all the wild animals have to stay underground.  But, Mr. Fox comes up with a devious plan to fee all the animals underground without being caught.
I liked this book because it was funny and amusing.  I think that kids who like animals and funny books would love this story.  I rate this book a five.

The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Ryan Selznick

I read the first chapter book that ever won a Caldecott Medal for best picture book.  It is called The Invention of Hugo Cabret.  The main character is a boy named Hugo whose father was a clockmaker.  They lived in Paris, France.  Hugo wants his father to fix a mechanical man, but Hugo's father is killed in a fire.  Hugo thinks it's all his fault that his father is dead.  After the fire, Hugo's uncle, who sets the clocks in the train station, takes Hugo to live with him in the train station in the walls.  But then he disappears, and Hugo keeps the clocks working like his uncle so nobody will find out that he's alone.  Hugo found the mechanical man in hte ashes of the fire and wants to fix it.  So, he steals parts from the toy booth in the station.  The old man that runs the toy booth hrabs Hugo's hand and won't let go.  He takes Hugo's notebook and is very upset when he sees the pictures of HIS mechanical man.

I suggest you read this book to find out the rest.  I liked this book because when you have to put the book down, you don't want to stop.  I rate this book a 5. I recommend this book to 5th and 6th graders and kids who love picture books because this book has so many pictures that sometimes there aren't even any words.

If you were poor, would you spend your last dime on a chocolate bar to have a chance to find a golden ticket to go to the BEST chocolate factory in the world?  This happens to Charlie in the book Charlie and the Chocoalate Factory by Roald Dahl.  Charlie is a poor boy who lives with his family, Mom, Dad, 2 grandmas and 2 grandpas all together in a tiny apartment.  His Grandpa Joe used to work at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory.  Charlie find this out during the golden ticket contest when only one ticket is left! One day, Charlie is walking and finds some money stuck in the sewer. He takes it , runs to the store, and buys a Wonka Chocolate bar.  He opens it...He found the golden ticket! He has a chance to tour the factory.
Weird things happen to the kids when they are at the chocolate factory.  At one point, Mike T.V. and Charlie go to the T.V. room where Willy Wonka shows them the chocolate bar teleporting machine.  It can teleport anything from one place to another through a T.V.  Mike loves this.
