Doctor Hours by Appointment
Hospital Philosophy
Our staff actively pursues continuing education, which enables us to keep abreast of the many advances in veterinary medicine.
History
Dr. Anthony Castrignano
and his wife, Lisa, purchased the hospital in 1986. At that time the practice
was 60% small animal and 40% large animal.
With dairy farm buyouts and a general decline in farming came a focus on the small animal aspect of veterinary medicine. The practice grew rapidly, and it soon became apparent the hospital would need to expand.
In June of 1989, the hospital was renovated and expanded to include a new surgery suite, anesthesia equipment, state of the art radiology equipment, and modern laboratory facilities. Larger and roomier boarding kennels were added, and a full-time groomer joined the expanded staff of veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Today we predominantly care for cats and dogs, but still welcome the
times when we find ourselves at the farm taking care of
dairy or beef herds, sheep, goats, and horses. Exotic pets, ranging from
gerbils to birds, also frequent our hospital. We donate our time and services
to treat owls, hawks, and waterfowl for VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural
Sciences).
Services
We are a full-service
animal hospital. We provide a variety of laboratory, nutritional, medical,
surgical, dental, and radiology services. We also offer grooming and boarding.
House-call services for both large and small animals are available by appointment.
The clinic has a diagnostic ultrasound and telemedicine unit that allows us to send cytology, x-ray, and ultrasound images to specialists via phone or internet. This allows for the quickest, most accurate diagnosis for your pets.

Emergencies
A veterinarian
is on call after hours to handle emergency situations that may arise. It
is imperative that you call the hospital before you arrive with an injured
or sick pet. This will enable the doctor on call to meet you at the hospital,
if necessary, and result in faster service for you and your pet.
Hospital Admission
All pets are admitted for surgical and dental procedures between the
hours of 7:30 & 8:30 A.M., unless the doctor specifies another time.
Your pet should not be fed after 8:00 P.M. the evening prior to admission.
Progress Reports
Inquiries concerning hospitalized pets should be made between 8:30
A.M. and 9:00 A.M. If there is an unexpected change in your pet’s condition
the doctor will contact you as soon as possible.
Visitation of Hospitalized Pets
Visitation is allowed, if authorized by the attending doctor. Arrangements
for visiting your pet must be made at the front desk. Visitation is arranged
and scheduled so as not to interfere with the treatment and care, not only
of your pet, but the other hospitalized pets as well. We appreciate your
understanding in this regard.
Discharge Arrangements
Discharge arrangements for most patients will be made at the time of
admission. Arrangements for those patients that may require several days
of hospitalization will be made towards the end of their stay with us.
Fees
Our obligation to you and your pet is to provide progressive medical
and surgical services. Our fee structure is based on maintaining a professional
staff and modern facility. We will be glad to provide you with an estimate
prior to the treatment of your pet. All fees must be paid in full before
your pet is discharged.
We accept
cash, checks, Visa, and MasterCard.
Educational Services
We encourage anyone interested in seeing our facility to ask for a
tour of the hospital. We frequently provide tours for schools. Tours are
by appointment only.
Boarding
We
provide comfortable boarding facilities for cats, dogs and some exotics.
Vaccinations (including kennel cough for dogs - also called Bordetella)
must be up to date. If necessary, vaccinations can be done when your pet
arrives at the hospital. We will ask you for an emergency number, or for
permission to treat your pet as needed in case of an emergency. Admit and
discharge times are the same as the regular hospital hours listed on the
front page.
Kennel staff may be working other than our normal hours, however they
are not authorized to admit or discharge pets. For their protection, they
are not allowed to let anyone into the hospital unless a doctor or technician
is on the premises.
Grooming and Supplies
We have a professional groomer on staff. Appointments are required
for both bathing and grooming.
We provide a complete line of pet food and grooming supplies. Our staff will be glad to consult with you regarding nutrition and pest control for your pets.
