Reinventing the Meal


Adopt-a-Crop Unit

Students carry out a small research project in which they identify a local food that they wish to study. (This can be done randomly by having them take a name from a hat.)

They are assigned to a designated local producer of that food, meet with the producer and, using a question quide, develop a presentation for their class to discuss the nutritional and economic value of this component of the local food system.

This is followed by preparation of a recipe using that food.
Students are peer evaluated using a supplied rubric.
